We haven't spoken in a while
haha yeah, its late and I'm catching up with both my school and with all of my online buds since this is the first time I've had wireless since I left, lets see CA in NOv. Wowwow (o) _(o) Alaska is farther behind than I thought! AT&T doesnt have the 3G network up here yet, so I had to pretty much be a b*tch just to let them out of my 2 year contract since the sales guy said my aircard would work up here... yessssss it did work......barely since dial up was faster than my 3g aircard!!
Needless to say I was pissed since it put me behind in my school again!!!!! Now it looks like I'll have to be taking my classes over AGAIN. God college never happens for me.....no matter how hard I try. Ah well, I refuse to give up, I WILL get that Bachelor's, even if it puts me in my deathbed!!!
Okay, so I am once again working as a secretary in an office for a vending company.... my cousins company actually, and I surprisingly like it! Besides my cousin/employer, I am the only one in the office and they are actually training me so that I'm learning what I need to do instead of being completely on my own like I was in CA. That sucked majorly. Training is good....it is very good. So works going good, for once. its a nice change.
And so......
Now for my entry out of my Writer's Block book. I told Smeesnoops that I would be posting entries out of this. Sorry its taken me so long to get around to this. I just got a new aircard that is local!!! Go figure, Digitel/Verizon has a good wireless set up up here but AT&T doesnt??? WTF????
Anyways, The entry for today is....
"A Good Title is Hard to Find"... Yes this is, in fact, a very true dilemma for a writer. DId you know that some of the most well known books such as 'Gone with the Wind', 'Of Mice and Men', & 'Roots' had really bad starting titles such as '
Wow, didnt see those coming.
This is a problem of mine. My english teacher always told me that the title is perhaps one of the most important elements of a book, yet the hardest to thing to come up with. To me, its like your trying to summarize the entire book with just a couple of very exclusive words. I hate trying to brainstorm up a title. Yet, its something I try to come up with before I even start writing the book because I have major issues like that when it comes to writing.
Actually, what the book suggests is this, and I quote...
"Good titles are good to come by, and writers look for them everywhere, from the bible to lyrics of popular songs. F. Scott Fitzgerald kept a special notebook just for writing down titles, and you might do the same. Pull ideas from every possible source: TV, movies, radio jingles, fortune cookies, computer error messages, restaurant menues, everywhere. Then choose the title that intrigues you the most, and write a story to go with it."
From the Writers BLock by Jason Rekulak.
This, I thought, was an excellent idea. Instead of trying to come up with a title for a story you've already come up with, come up with the title first and then start writing the story!!! Its definately a very different approach, for me at least. I think I'm going to try Fitzgerald's approach, most def. I carry note book with me anyway, wouldnt hurt to start writing down little words or phrases that interest me.
Hope this was helpful to somebody. Until the next entry....
Happy writing trails!!!!
